Your Bonsai Tree is a living piece of art and it reflects your efforts of shaping and growing. So your pot should compliment your tree and not overwhelm it. People should not see the pot first but when they do notice it, they should appreciate how it compliments the tree.
So how do you pick a pot or container for your tree? First be sure to use your common sense. You want a pot that will help you grow a beautiful Bonsai tree. You want a pot or container who’s looks compliment the tree.
If you tree is taller than wide consider a pot or container that is two thirds the height. If your Bonsai is wider than it is tall consider a pot that is two thirds its width.
If your Bonsai has sharp features to it, consider a pot that has angles to it. If your Bonsai has rounded smooth features consider a pot without angles.
Be sure it is deep enough for the roots and soil it will need to grow in.
Pots and containers for Bonsai trees come in multiple colors, sizes and shapes. Pick a complimentary pot to your Bonsai and where it is raised.
There are mica, plastic, terra cotta and stoneware pots and containers. Stoneware is considered the best over all. Most evergreen Bonsai trees need an unglazed pot. Most Bonsai trees that are deciduous, bear fruit or flowers are best in glazed containers.
Remember use your common sense and get a pot or container that compliments your work of art – your Bonsai Tree.
